The largest viking statue in North America (maybe the world)! Big Ole was built in 1965 and has stood watch over Alexandria ever since. Big Ole is a popular place for a photo-op along the SKÅL CRAWL as it really brings out the Viking in us all!
The legend of the Kensington Runestone put the Alexandria area on the map as a questionable "Birthplace of America" - supposedly discovered by the Vikings long before Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492! The Runestone museum is where the real runestone lives along with other artifacts. Whether you believe it or not, it is fun to check out the museum and learn a little history of the area! One of the major factors behind the rich Viking Culture in our area!
